Jacob Rosecrants Said..

These are my priorities for public education: I’m on a crusade to end corporate reform in our public schools, do away with test/punish of #nclb & to usher in a public education renaissance led by teachers & parents. Thanks for coming to my Ed Talk! #FridayMotivation #oklaed https://t.co/qe3iQMNih5

Forrest Bennett Said..

For decades, OKC citizens have watched their pennies turn into awesome things—schools, attractions, public spaces & more. Our city continues to see the benefits. But *everyone* deserves to see their pennies turn into something meaningful in their life—MAPS4 does just that. /end

Forrest Bennett Said..

2) a sales tax is inherently a regressive tax—meaning it impacts the wallets of the poor more than the rich. So, it would stand to reason that this package would include projects that benefit the many lower income taxpayers that exist in this city. It’s what a good city does. 6/
by Forrest Bennett, Representative from OKC

Forrest Bennett Said..

Here’s a couple of hard facts: 1) some voters with means have to see something that excites them in order for them to vote for a package that includes stuff that won’t help them personally. Not all voters with means, but some. MAPS4 does just that, and that’s by design. 5/

Forrest Bennett Said..

This is a package that will deliver some amazing things to people who could use a hand up: rapid & reliable public transit in the 4th largest city by landmass in the US; mental health, addiction, and housing support in a state that ranks horribly in those areas, and much more. 4/
by Forrest Bennett, Representative from OKC

Forrest Bennett Said..

A good city addresses its peoples’ needs AND desires. Previous MAPS—ones this morning’s naysayer supported—addresses desires for some and ignored the needs of many. Even so, they paved the way for MAPS4, a package that goes beyond the last few in incredible ways. 3/
by Forrest Bennett, Representative from OKC

Forrest Bennett Said..

I’ve enjoyed dozens of substantive debates on the merits and flaws of the MAPS package. Reasonable people disagree about some specifics, but those discussions included a compassion for the people we hope to serve with these projects. This morning’s interviewee lacked that. 2)

Forrest Bennett Said..

Happened to catch an interview on a local news channel this morning with an outspoken opponent of #MAPS4. The person encouraging a no vote seems to be motivated by an opposition to the human needs projects—diversion hub, public transit, housing, etc. So I’m headed to vote NOW. 1/

RT @JD__Baker: This cruel rule failed its attempts in Congress with the House rejecting it in a bipartisan vote of 330-83, and the Senate voted down a similar amendment 68-30. This will only cause more hunger in America, leaving many young adults starving while wages remain stagnant. https://t.co/IebL1Xggaf
