Jacob Rosecrants Said..

These are my priorities for public education: I’m on a crusade to end corporate reform in our public schools, do away with test/punish of #nclb & to usher in a public education renaissance led by teachers & parents. Thanks for coming to my Ed Talk! #FridayMotivation #oklaed https://t.co/qe3iQMNih5

For decades, OKC citizens have watched their pennies turn into awesome things—schools, attractions, public spaces & more. Our city continues to see the benefits. But *everyone* deserves to see their pennies turn into something meaningful in their life—MAPS4 does just that. /end

2) a sales tax is inherently a regressive tax—meaning it impacts the wallets of the poor more than the rich. So, it would stand to reason that this package would include projects that benefit the many lower income taxpayers that exist in this city. It’s what a good city does. 6/

Here’s a couple of hard facts: 1) some voters with means have to see something that excites them in order for them to vote for a package that includes stuff that won’t help them personally. Not all voters with means, but some. MAPS4 does just that, and that’s by design. 5/

This is a package that will deliver some amazing things to people who could use a hand up: rapid & reliable public transit in the 4th largest city by landmass in the US; mental health, addiction, and housing support in a state that ranks horribly in those areas, and much more. 4/

A good city addresses its peoples’ needs AND desires. Previous MAPS—ones this morning’s naysayer supported—addresses desires for some and ignored the needs of many. Even so, they paved the way for MAPS4, a package that goes beyond the last few in incredible ways. 3/
